Best Wishes on Librarian and Library Day

Librarian and Library Day was founded on 8 May 1985. The Library of the State Maritime School in Tczew, today's Karol Olgierd Borchardt Main Library at Gdynia Maritime University, was first opened in 1920, and soon its collection was adapted not only to the needs of the school but also included textbooks, encyclopaedias, dictionaries and literature.

Francis Bacon said that "books are like ships sailing through the oceans of time, caringly carrying their precious cargo from generation to generation". On the occasion of Librarian and Library Day, in addition to wishing them satisfaction in their professional lives, I would also like to thank the staff of the Main Library at Gdynia Maritime University for their commitment to the spread of the culture of reading and all its associated values among all generations who have benefited from use of the University library.
