Education at the Faculty of Marine Engineering

The mission of the Faculty is to educate students at the highest level and creating employees able to effectively meet the challenges of modern maritime transport and maritime economy in Poland and abroad and to conduct scientific research related to the construction and operation of technical systems in maritime economy.

The Faculty offers degrees in two academic fields: Mechanical Engineering and Machine Design and the newly established (2022) Technical Systems Operations and Diagnostics. Course curriculums meet both the Polish education standards established by the Ministry of Higher Education and the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation. The Faculty trains marine crews (in accordance with STCW 76/95) and professionals for the onshore industry in areas including repair technology, plant operation engineering, production engineering, technical equipment diagnostics, and wind farm exploitation management. Graduates of marine specialisations are entitled to work on merchant ships around the world.

Within the academic field of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty offers first-cycle (bachelor of engineering) and second-cycle (master's) studies programmes in the following specialisations:

1st-cycle:

  • Ship Propulsion Plant and Offshore Construction Operation (marine specialisation)
  • Ship and Port Equipment Repair Technology
  • Operations Engineering
  • Production Engineering

2nd-cycle:

  • Ship and Port Equipment Repair Technology
  • Operations Engineering

     

Within the academic field of Operations and Diagnostics of Technical Systems, the Faculty offers first-cycle (bachelor of engineering) study programmes in two specialisations:

  • Technical Equipment Diagnostics
  • Wind Farm Exploitation Management

During their first and second years of study, students are given maritime training aboard GMU training ships, the "Dar Młodzieży” and the "Horyzont II”.

The Faculty of Marine Engineering of Gdynia Maritime University is the first university faculty in Poland to attain ISO 9001 quality certification - a guarantee of a high quality of education and research.
