18-19th April saw an online meeting of the IAMU International Executive Board. The meeting was attended by representatives of maritime universities from different regions of the globe as well as the staff of the IAMU secretariat in Tokyo.

From GMU, the following persons took part:

  • HM Rector Professor Adam Weintrit -  Head of the IAMU Academic Affairs Committee, and
  • Deputy Rector for  IAMU affairs - Dr Adam Przybyłowski, the IAMU contact person.

Several key matters concerning the functioning of the association were discussed and approved, including strategic, academic - research, teaching and organisational, as well as financial issues.

Appreciating the University’s input over the past years, the members of the International Executive Board decided GMU will sit on the IEB as a permanent representative of the wide range of maritime universities affiliated with IAMU for the term 2023-2025. In effect, this means that until March 2023, GMU will fulfil the role of representative for the so-called Europe/Africa region, and from April 2023 will be included in a group known as At Large Representatives, which comprises three representatives nominated on account of their involvement in the activity of different committees, workgroups, conferences and webinars.

During the meeting, HM Rector Professor Adam Weintrit presented the most important activities and arrangements concerning the functioning of the Academic Affairs Committee, which is headed by GMU. He discussed the status of current projects being carried out by the various consortia and research teams within the Association and more. He also asked the IEB members to give final approval to the projects selected in the last competition.

The Rector provided details on a webinar entitled: “IAMU Research Project System” which was co-organised by UMG on 29.03, featured guidelines on how to successfully gain funding for scientific research via an IAMU grant.

Also discussed was the current status of the Covid-19 pandemic and challenges associated with international cooperation in the face of the war in Ukraine. The date for the IAMU Annual General Assembly (AGA) was announced as 19-22 October. This year’s event will take place in Batumi, Georgia.
