Borchardt Published in Russian

The most widely known book of Polish marine-themed literature, Znaczy Kapitan, written by Karol Olgierda Borchardt, and published in English under the title “I Mean Captain”, has now been released in Russian. This newest version of the much-loved classic has been published by Russian publishing company “Maritime Heritage” of St Petersburg.

A copy of the legendary tales of the beginnings of Polish maritime education and passenger ships, starring Captain Mamert Stankiewicz, was kindly sent to the University’s Karol O. Borchardta library by Ewa Ziołkowska, Director of the Polish Institute in St Petersburg.

The Russian version is the work of Aleksander Korwin Piotrowski and includes a preface written by Ewa Ostrowska and an introduction by Dr Heronim Grala of Warsaw University. A notable edition of the book, the cover contains a picture of the Lwów and was translated from the original Polish text published by Wydawnictwo Morskie in 1960.
