GMU Honored with a Special Award

Rector of GMU, Prof. Adam Weintrit  accepted the Capt. Leszek Wiktorowicz Award on 28th May 2021, on behalf of Gdynia Maritime University for one hundred years of service as the guardian of maritime education in Poland.

The Special Award - one of the most important sailing awards in Poland - comes in the form of a medal. The award was established in 2011 to honor exceptional sailing achievements, achievements in the field of maritime education or contributions to the awareness of maritime matters.

This year, the Chapter of the Award of Capt. Leszek Wiktorowicz, which includes representatives of the initiators of the award - the captain's family, the City of Gdynia, the Kaphornite Brotherhood and the Press Club Poland - honored for the second time Gdynia Maritime University. The laudation was delivered by the President of the Gdynia City Council, Joanna Zielińska, who said that the University's name may have changed over the last 100 years, but the people who continue to educate young people have not.
