HORIZON II’s expedition to Spitsbergen

On 29.06.2021 at 8:00 a.m., the training and research ship HORYZONT II returned to port in Gdynia from its expedition to Spitsbergen.

Onboard were 2nd-year students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Polska Akademia Nauk scientists, as well as crew under the command of Master Mariner Ryszard Durlik.

The HORYZONT II is instrumental in the seamanship and radar training of maritime school students.  The ship is also involved in research and supply expeditions on behalf of Polish scientific stations.

The ship is due to sail for the island of Spitsbergen in mid-August to carry out a change of personnel and deliver a fresh supply of products and materials for the winter season. On this occasion, the trainees will be 16 new students from the University’s Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

The HORYZONT II is expected to return to its home port in Gdynia in mid-September.
