– Offshore wind energy is currently one of the fastest developing renewable energy technologies in Europe. Such technology is also gaining in importance in Asia and North America. Offshore wind energy is one of the key elements in the reduction of greenhouse gases and the energy transition of our country - said Gdynia Maritime University Rector Professor Adam Weintrit. – Two years ago, in November 2020, the European Commission outlined a strategy for the development of renewable energy from offshore wind to a capacity of more than 60 GW in 2030 and 300 GW in 2050. This is part of the so-called European Green Deal, aimed at putting Europe on the road to a zero-emission economy. Achieving the required installed capacity in offshore technology in Europe supposes investments to the value of 800 billion Euros, and, above all, competent professionals, capable of successfully managing such large investments - commented Professor Weintrit. – The opening of a dedicated MBA programme in offshore wind fulfils one of GMU's strategic goals, namely to produce highly qualified personnel for the widely understood maritime industry, which is great news as it fits in perfectly with the development programme we have set for the University.
The new postgraduate level study programme will last four semesters and will be led by experts in offshore wind energy and lecturers and practitioners in management from Poland, Germany, Denmark, and Great Britain.
- The Executive Offshore Wind MBA conducted at our University will provide participants with the necessary know-how and competencies for a management career in companies within the offshore wind energy industry. The Programme’s structure is designed to also develop general management competencies and will therefore equip participants with the skills for the effective management and development of their companies. Without a doubt, this is not an easy programme of study. The entire Programme will be delivered in English, and in setting the bar very high for both ourselves and the participants, we hope it will prove to be a transformational experience – said Deputy Rector for Education, Dr Sambor Guze.
The offshore wind energy sector has significant potential for development in Poland, Europe and the around the world. This creates exceptional career opportunities for individuals with industry and management competencies, confirmed by a prestigious MBA diploma. Graduates of the first in Poland and second in Europe MBA programme dedicated to the offshore wind sector will certainly be in a position to benefit from such opportunities. We anticipate that our graduates will be among the most sought-after managers in the Polish and international offshore wind energy industry. Similarly, those companies that admit their staff to the EOW MBA programme will gain highly motivated personnel as well as access to unique know-how and an abundance of contemporary solutions - commented the Director of the Offshore Wind Energy Centre, Andrzej Popadiuk, at the inauguration of the new study programme.
This is the first edition of the EOW MBA in Poland, but given the level of interest from potential candidates, it certainly won’t be the last. The wind energy industry in Poland is entering a phase of intensive development, in which there will be a rapid increase in the demand for managerial staff. Therefore, from the beginning of April, we intend to begin admitting candidates for the next edition of the Programme which is set to begin in November of this year - concluded Tomasz Harackiewicz, the Director of the EOW MBA study programme.
