GMU Students Get Onboard “I Love Poland” Yacht.

On 9th June, several of our students had the chance to visit one of the most well-known Polish racing yachts, the “I Love Poland” Volvo Open 70.

Yachts of this type often compete in the most prestigious regattas in the world. The owner of the “I Love Poland” is Polska Fundacja Narodowa [Polish National Foundation] and one of the members of the vessel’s crew, Bartosz Nowicki, is a Gdynia Maritime University graduate.

The Volvo Open 70 type yacht, which competes in sailing’s equivalent of Formula 1, was of great interest to our students. The record number of nautical miles sailed by the “I love Poland” is a staggering 605 nautical miles. The students were able to see everything close up for themselves, and Bartosz Nowicki was an excellent guide. An interesting discussion took place on navigation equipment and navigation and weather applications used onboard the yacht.

The visit was organised by the Sailing and Water Sports Centre, with students attending from all faculties at our University.
