International Day for Women in Maritime

Dear Ladies,

On 18th May 2022, the maritime community will celebrate the first International Women in Maritime Day endorsed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

On the occasion of this special holiday, on behalf of myself and all Gdynia Maritime University authorities, I would like to wish all ladies connected with our University’s academic environment - lecturers, students, PhD candidates, and administrative staff - all the best in your work and study within the maritime community and the GMU academic community.

The maritime environment, including shipping, shipbuilding, ports, administration and land-based facilities, but also academic, scientific and research centres, is a place where professional and scientific work is carried out by talented, ambitious and passionate women. I hope that this new holiday will draw attention to your invaluable contribution to the development and current work of the maritime industry, which I hope will make every effort and take all possible steps to make the maritime environment barrier-free so that women in the maritime community can realise their scientific ambitions and professional aspirations fully and without hindrance.
