International Maritime Congress Meets in Szczecin

International Maritime Congress 2022, Szczecin

The 9th International Maritime Congress met in Szczecin on 29th and 30th of June to debate the most important challenges currently faced by the widely understood maritime industry. The discussions were attended by HM Rector Professor  Adam Weintrit.

Topics on the agenda included the current state of international affairs, including the ongoing war in Ukraine, as well as the progressively more restrictive legislation on environmental protection.  

Discussion panels on the first day of the sitting focused on the strategy of the maritime industry at a time of crisis, and the current green transformation of the economy, including debates on new technologies and innovative solutions in shipping and port infrastructure. Talks also mentioned the use of artificial intelligence in maritime transport and the directions of development of the digitalisation of ports. 

The second day of the congress was dominated by topics connected with the development of offshore wind energy and the offshore sector as a whole. One debate that took place was between the rectors of higher education institutions in Szczecin, Gdynia, Gdansk, and Koszalin and was entitled  “Science for the Offshore Industry” A separate discussion panel focused on the opportunity for Polish shipyards presented by offshore wind energy.

The 9th  International Maritime Congress was organised by the West Pomerania Maritime Cluster and the Maritime Congress Foundation, in connection with the Management of Szczecin and Świnoujście Maritime Ports and the Ministry of Infrastructure.
