Rector Attends Inaugural Sitting of Offshore Wind Energy Coordinating Council

GMU Rector Professor Adam Weintrit took part in the inaugural sitting of the Offshore Wind Energy Council at the Ministry for Climate and the Environment.

The Coordinating Council is the supervisory body responsible for overseeing the “sectoral agreement for the development of offshore wind energy in Poland”,  concluded on the 15th September 2021 on the initiative of Ireneusz Zyska, the deputy minister for climate and the environment and government plenipotentiary for renewable energy sources, government administration, representatives of financial institutions, investment companies, supply chain and scientific organisations. One aim of the agreement is to ensure the involvement of Polish companies in the offshore supply chain. Following the conclusion of the agreement, the Minister for Climate and the Environment, Anna Moskwa, appointed 34 members to the Coordinating Council - representatives of each of the parties to the agreement for the development of offshore wind energy in Poland. The Secretary of State to the Ministry for Climate and the Environment, Ireneusz Zyska, was named as Chair.

The first meeting of the Council was held on 15th March 2022.

- We are now entering the next phase of work connected with the implementation of the sectoral agreement. Currently, a total of 180 entities are party to the agreement for the development of offshore wind energy in Poland - informed Ms Zyska.

The first sitting of the Council saw the approval of the Rules of Procedure as well as the appointment of workgroups dedicated to the following areas:

Group 1 – Development of personnel and the education system;

Group 2 – R&D;

Group 3 – Development of Polish Industry and the involvement of Polish businesses (in export);

Group 4 – Port infrastructure logistics and their effect on the coastal region;

Group 5 – Public awareness;

Group 6 – Cooperation with stakeholders and the regulatory environment.

Following the establishment of their action plans, the teams are scheduled to begin their work at the beginning of May.
