Two-Day Celebrations for University Celebration Day Begin with Memorial Roll Call.

On 7th December 2022 at 3:30 pm, a Memorial Roll Call was read in front of the Maritime Poland Monument in Gdynia's Kościuszko Square.

The Memorial Roll Call, read in honour of all those who have left for the eternal watch, is a permanent part of Gdynia Maritime University's Celebration Day. With this solemn symbolic act, we remember directors, lecturers, staff, students and graduates of the Tczew Maritime School and Gdynia Maritime University who died in the field of glory or at sea.

The ceremony began with the raising of the Polish flag to the sound of the national anthem. A speech was then given by the Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Development, Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk.

The Memorial Roll Call was read by Dr Marcin Frycz, who closed this symbolic act of remembrance of the departed the following words:

I call on all of you who are radiant in the glory of heroism and dedication in service to the Polish sea to stand for this Roll Call! Stand to see that the sacrifice of your lives was not in vain and that by continuing your work, we are building our homeland in accordance with our will and the best instincts of our hearts. May our homeland be a permanent monument to you.

We honour you and remember you!

Glory to the Fallen and the Dead!

All praise to their memory!

The ceremony ended with the laying of wreaths under the Maritime Poland monument by the GMU authorities, representatives of maritime associations and guests.

The Border Guard Unit's Maritime Orchestra, assisted by the Gdynia Maritime University Guard of Honour, provided an atmosphere of solemnity.

On the same day, representatives of Gdynia Maritime University laid a wreath on the graves of Master Mariner Stanisław Koska, Master Mariner Antoni Zieliński and Master Mariner Bolesław Mikszt at the Witomino Cemetery in Gdynia. The graves of the captains are marked with plaques indicating that, by decision of the Polish Academy of Sciences, they were recorded in the records of the graves of Veterans fighting for the freedom and independence of Poland.

The marking of Gdynia Maritime University Celebration Day will continue on 8th December 2022. The day will begin with the ceremonial raising of the Polish Navy's flag on the University's main building at 8:00 am.

Then at 9:00 am, a Holy Mass will be held in the Redemptorist church on Portowa Street in Gdynia for the intentions of the staff, students, doctoral candidates, and alumni of the University.
