GMU Scientists Awarded Scholarships by Ministry for Education and Science
On 1 July 2022, the Ministry of Education and Science announced the names of the outstanding young scientists to be awarded a three-year scholarship for demonstrating significant achievements in scientific activity. Among the names of those to receive a scholarship are scientists from Gdynia Maritime University.
Applications for the scholarship for outstanding young scientists with significant achievements in scientific activity were sent to the Ministry of Education and Science by the rectors of universities, as well as the directors of institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, research institutes, and international institutes in December 2021. A total of 1719 applications were submitted.
The assessment of the applications was carried out within the individual disciplines of science and art using a scoring method by an advisory panel comprising experts representing 47 scientific and artistic disciplines. The minimum point threshold allowing the award of a scholarship was different in relation to each discipline.
In what was the 17th edition of the scholarship programme dedicated to young outstanding scientists, 215 candidates were selected to receive a scholarship, including 37 doctoral candidates.
Among the winners of a scholarship were outstanding young technical and engineering scientists from Gdynia Maritime University:
Automation, electronics, and electrical engineering
Agnieszka Lazarowska, PhD(Eng), Assistant Professor in the Department of Ship Automation
Civil Engineering and Transport
Mariusz Mateusz Specht, PhD(Eng) Assistant Professor in the Department of Transport and Logistics in the Faculty of Navigation
Paweł Szymon Dąbrowski, PhD(Eng) Assistant Professor in the Geodesy and Oceanography section in the Faculty of Navigation.
When assessing applications, the greatest weight was given to measurable effects of scientific activity in the form of scientific publications and practical applications of the results of scientific research or development works.
Ministry scholarships may be awarded to persons who qualify as having young scientist status, i.e., doctoral candidates or academic teachers who do not hold a doctoral degree or have held a doctoral degree for less than seven years, and are employed at higher education establishments and research institutes.
