International Maritime Education Conference

Between 21 and 25 September, Rector Professor Adam Weintrit took part in the International Maritime Education Conference at Dalian Maritime University in China.

As the Chair of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), HM The Rector of GMU attended the Conference as a guest of honour. Also participating was the Secretary General of the International Maritime Association (IMO), Kitack Lim, and the President of the World Maritime University, Maximo Meija. The event was also attended by rectors and representatives of almost 30 maritime universities from around the world.

The motto for the Conference was "Emerging Technology: Empowering Maritime Education and Sustainable Shipping Industry”. On 24 September, three discussion panels were held with in which 28 speakers took part. Speakers presented their perspectives on some of the overarching concerns in maritime education and discussed the ways in which they tried to resolve them. Taking part as a Keynote Speaker, HM The Rector presented a paper entitled "The Future in Marine Shipping and a Balanced Reaction of the Maritime Education Sector to Technology Development".

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss with Dalian Maritime University authorities the details of further joint activities as part of the agreement signed by the University Heads in April 2023.

During his stay in Dalian, the Rector could follow the progress of the "Dar Młodzieży" as it drew nearer to the equator at the University's ship traffic control centre.
