Technology Transfer Office Attends International Warsaw Invention Show
On 12-14 December 2023, the 17th International Warsaw Invention Show (IWIS) took place at the Warsaw University of Technology.
The IWIS is an excellent opportunity for inventions to be shown on the international stage. The event is organised by the Association of Polish Inventors and Innovators (SPWiR).
During the event, the GMU Technology Transfer Office was represented at its stand by innovation brokers Beata Wetoszka and Anna Żuławska, who promoted the University's research services and industry solutions developed as part of the pre-implementation work carried out under the "innovation incubator 4.0" programme:
- UMG-04: "Ship-wide electrical power quality monitoring system for electrical machines and equipment" – Faculty of Electrical Engineering
- UMG-06: "HurtHub" – Faculty of Navigation
- UMG-09: "Development of technology for manufacturing a new sandmich composite using a recycled rubber material" - Faculty of Marine Engineering
- UMG-10: "New char-based composite material" - Faculty of Marine Engineering
- UMG-11: "Docking system for offshore installations" - Faculty of Navigation
The highlight of the event for the Technology Transfer Team was taking part in the competition for the best innovations of 2023. Inventions developed as part of pre-implementation work UMG-09 and UMG-10 were also entered into the World Chemistry Competition. The GMU innovation brokers presented inventions to the international committee, which will assess their market potential, the strategy for their legal protection and the degree of technological readiness. Inventions are evaluated in 12 categories: ecology and environmental protection, mechanical engineering, construction, electronics, and textile and chemical industries. The results of the competition and the winners' medals will be presented at the closing ceremony.
The International Warsaw Invention Show is Poland's largest international event promoting invention and innovation. One of the primary goals of the event, in addition to the promotion of the scientific achievements of Polish scientists and inventors against the backdrop of global solutions, is to enable contact with potential investors and create innovative attitudes among children and young people. Representatives of financial institutions interested in investing in modern products and technology are also invited to participate in the exhibition.
The Honorary Patron of the event is the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, as well as industry partners, including The European Association of Inventors, the International Federation of Inventive Associations (IFIA), the Federation of Associations of Science and Technology, the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce, and the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA). The event was also attended by the President of the Patent Office, Edyta Demby-Siwek.
The exhibition brings together inventors and guests not only from Poland but also from more than 25 other countries around the world, including Saudi Arabia, Croatia, Egypt, Iran, Canada, Malaysia, Korea, Turkey, Romania and Taiwan. The innovations presented provide an overview of technical achievements already in use or awaiting commercialisation and implementation. The Invention Show also includes lectures and talks on the protection of intellectual property and networking between the academic community and business.
