On Friday 28th October 2022, Rector Professor Adam Weintrit, on behalf of the entire academic community, laid a wreath and a candle under the monument "For those who have departed for the eternal watch" monument on the boulevard in Gdynia, paying tribute to all people of the sea who have gone before us. 

It has become a tradition at Gdynia Maritime University for the academic community to pay tribute to all seafarers, sailors and anglers for whom the sea was the last and eternal port of call.  

The monument "For those who have departed for the eternal watch" is a tangible symbol of the memory of those who never returned from sea.
