University Wins Gold Anchor!

The 22nd BALTEXPO International Maritime Expositions and Conferences began with the presentation of awards to leaders in the maritime industry. Gdynia Maritime University was awarded the Gold Anchor in the "Offshore" category. The award was accepted by HM The Rector Professor Adam Weintrit.

The BALTEXPO Gold Anchor is the award granted to companies and institutions whose projects, products, services, activities or achievements during the two years following the last edition of the event have had or may have a significant impact on economic development. Awards are granted in five thematic and two special categories. Our University was awarded the Gold Anchor in the "Offshore" category for "education and research for the needs of offshore wind energy". The award was presented to Rector Professor Adam Weintrit by the President of the Gdansk International Expositions, Andrzej Bojanowski. In his thank you speech for the prestigious award, the Rector said:

"In all four faculties, we have launched 1st-cycle or 2nd-cycle degrees, postgraduate studies, and MBA programmes, which are to educate future managers of the offshore wind energy sector. We saw the potential in the undeveloped area between the sea and the land, and that is the offshore area".

The same category of award was presented to the company Energetyka Morska for the creation of a Research and Development Centre in Szczecin.

The other winners of the gold anchor are:

  • In the category of "Ship Building Industry" - Crist Ship Yard;
  • In the category of "Infrastructure" - Gdynia Maritime Office, Szczecin Maritime Office;
  • In the category of "Armed Forces" - Remontowa Shipbuilding;
  • In the category of "Innovation" - Mapal.

Special Awards went to Adam Ruszkowski, the President of the Management Board of Remontowa Holding, for the "Personality of the Maritime Industry".

Gdynia Maritime University is one of the 200 exhibitors participating in the AMBEREXPO in Gdansk over three days, the biggest event in Poland that brings together entities from the maritime and shipbuilding industries. The third day of the exhibition will be a Careers Day, during which as many as 2,000 secondary school students from the Tricity region and Pomerania will be exposed to the degrees and education on offer at GMU.
