The winners of the “Memories of Seamanship Experience Onboard Dar Młodzieży” competition have now been decided. The competition was aimed at all those who completed a period of seamanship experience on the sailing ship between 1982 and 2021.

At the beginning of September 2021, the chair of the Council of the Master Mariner’s Association, Dr/Captain Wiesław Piotrzkowski, and Honorowy President of the Nautological Society, Professor/Captain  Daniel Duda, proposed in a letter written to HM Rector of Gdynia Maritime University Adam Weintrit that a competition be held for the best works commemorating “Memories of seamanship experience onboard Dar Młodzieży”.

The authors of the idea rightly decided that the upcoming 40th anniversary of the raising of the flag on Dar Młodzieży, the University’s sailing ship, should be marked appropriately.

All former trainees were invited to participate in the competition, regardless of their place of study or specialisation. 

Given many of the graduates' busy professional schedules, the original deadline for entries of 31st December 2021 proved to be too short, and was extended until 15th February following the requests of many of those interested in participating.

The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University provided funding for three awards for the best entries:

1st place - certificate and 1000 PLN

2nd place - certificate and 500 PLN

3rd place - certificate

A total of 19 entries were submitted to the competition by the 15th February deadline.

Following the competition jury’s decision to award works submitted according to the three categories of film, written works, and other forms, Rector Professor Adam Weintrit substantially increased the prize fund.

1st place     Filip Sularczyk and Yurii Slesarenko - prize 1000 PLN

1st place     Anastazja Łuczak - prize 1000 PLN

2nd place    Patrycja Boratyńska - prize 500 PLN

2nd place    Michał Mikołajczuk - prize 500 PLN

3rd place     Szymon Łabacki - certificate

2. WRITTEN WORKS

1st place    Piotr Świderski - prize 1000 PLN

2nd place    Maciej Średnicki - prize 500 PLN

3. OTHER FORMS

1st place    Kacper Kamecki - prize 1000 PLN

2nd place    Olga Zając - prize 500 PLN

2nd place    Kamil Dopke - prize 500 PLN

3rd place    Aleksander Hora - certificate

3rd place    Kacper Reder - certificate

The winners will be presented with the awards on 17th June 2022 during University Celebration Day.
