HM The Rector Takes Part in Ceremony for the Conferral of Honorary Title of Doctor Honoris Causa on Prof. Stanisław Gucma

The Senate of the Maritime University of Szczecin has awarded Professor/Captain Stanisław Gucma the title of Doctor honoris causa. HM The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit, took part in the ceremony and fulfilled the role of reviewer of the academic output and professional achievements of Stanisław Gucma.

The Senate of the Maritime University of Szczecin passed a resolution on 20 March 2024 following consideration of the opinions of the reviewers, Professor Adam Weintrit and Professor Wojciech Wawrzyński, and the Senates of Gdynia Maritime University and the Senate of the Gdynia Naval Academy, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to maritime higher education, in particular in the pioneering research of maritime traffic engineering, and recognition of his commitment to the development of the Maritime University of Szczecin. On 13 June 2024, the Senate conferred on Professor/Captain Stanisław Gucma, the prestigious honorary title of Doctor honoris causa of Szczecin Maritime University.

His contribution as Rector of the Maritime University in Szczecin would, in itself, be enough for the Senate to grant him this honorary title. Many of the Professors' solutions are already used in practice. All ports from Szczecin to Gdynia show evidence of his contributions - said the Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, Adam Weintrit.

The Professor is the author of textbooks and study curriculums, the supervisor of many graduate works, as well as doctoral and post-doctoral dissertations. He is recognised as one of the most outstanding figures in Polish academia and the author of the Polish school of navigation. Professor Gucma's concepts have been introduced both in the maritime and other industries.
