Inauguration of GMU Centre for the Offshore Industry Fast Approaching

On 29 February, the GMU Centre for the Offshore Industry will open its doors for its much-awaited inauguration. The almost 64 million PLN investment project began in 2021 and the building was granted a use permit in November 2023.

The modern facility, which will act as the new headquarters of the GMU Maritime Institute, is located on Roberta de Plelo Street near the Wisłoujście Fortress in Gdańsk. Its location will allow for direct access to the Wisłoujście dock, which was constructed by the Authority of Port Gdańsk in 2020. Built to create the seed for a "Polish Offshore Valley", the Centre is home to several accredited laboratories, which will be used in the preparation and implementation of investments in offshore wind energy.

The Maritime Institute is GMU's research unit dedicated to the implementation of commercial projects, projects financed from external sources, and projects and scientific research for the benefit of the maritime and related sectors. The Institute also acts as a competence centre and is a centre for the processing and evaluation of information on the needs and priorities of the maritime industry, as well as the use of marine resources, including the management of maritime space.

The inauguration of the newly built GMU Offshore Centre, constructed by general contractor BUDIMEX S.A., is scheduled for 11:00 am.

The project is co-financed by the Regional Operation Programme for the Pomeranian Voivodeship for 2014-2020, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
