Maritime Department of Dubrovnik University Chosen as Regional IAMU Representative

On 22nd February 2024, the member universities of the International Association of Maritime Universities from Europe and Africa elected a new representative to the International Executive Board (IEB) for the next term of office. Taking part in the meeting online were HM The President, Professor Adam Weintrit, and the University's IAMU Contact Person, Dr Adam Przybyłowski.

Region 1 - Europe and Africa - is represented by 40 member universities. Standing for election were eight of the region's universities.

3. Constanta Maritime University, Romania,
4. Batumi State Maritime Academy, Georgia,
5. Faculty of Maritime Studies, King Abdulaziz University Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,
6. Batumi Navigation Teaching University, Georgia,
7. National University - Odessa Maritime Academy (Ukraine)  
8. Liverpool John Moores University, UK.

Following presentations by the individual universities of their potential, achievements, and plans of activity, a discussion took place on the candidates. IAMU Chair, Professor Adam Weintrit, asked all candidates to determine the role that their university would play within the various IEB committees should it be selected as regional representative.

The most votes were received by the Maritime Department of the University of Dubrovnik, which will take over from the Faculty of Maritime Studies of the University of Rijeka as a member of the IEB for the years 2025-2027. Gdynia Maritime University had the honour of representing Region 1 on the IEB for the term 2023-2025.
