University Hosts First Session of ‘Knowledge to Knowledge’ Programme

Gdynia Maritime University hosted the first session of a programme organised by the Netherlands Embassy in Warsaw and Linkedby Offshore Wind on 7 May 2024.

The programme aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience between institutions and companies in the Netherlands and Polish universities providing education or planning to provide education for the dynamically developing offshore wind energy in Poland. The programme is aimed especially at teaching staff involved in the development of academic programmes educating future offshore wind personnel.

The event was opened by HM The Rector of GMU Professor Adam Weintrit. The Netherlands Embassy was represented by Frank Van de Pieterman, the Deputy Head of the Embassy’s Economics Department, who introduced the topics covered by the programme.

The topic of the first session, “Fundamentals of offshore wind energy”, was approached in several parts:

  • Wind turbines, wind turbines and wind resources — system integration
  • Lifetime development of wind farm projects
  • Installation of offshore wind farms 
  • Operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms.

The lectures were delivered to 40 persons from the Polish academic environment by Piet Warnaar, an offshore wind energy expert representing the Netherlands research institute TNO.

The Knowledge to Knowledge Programme includes 7 sessions on issues related to offshore wind energy. The last sessions will be held during the first quarter of 2025.
