Delegation from Taiwan Visits Gdynia Maritime University
GMU welcomed a delegation from Kaohsiung, the biggest port city in Taiwan and one of Gdynia’s twin towns, to the University on 16 September 2025. Taking part in the meeting, during which GMU leaders and authorities from the Taiwanese city led by Lo TaSheng, the Deputy Mayor of Kaohsiung, discussed the potential for cooperation between the two sides. GMU was represented by HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit.
The Rector was joined by Dr Sambor Guze, Deputy Rector for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy Rector for Science. As part of the meeting, GMU representatives gave a short presentation on the activities of the University’s activity in education and science. The University’s previous experience in collaborating with Taiwan was also mentioned, including cooperation within the framework of the TransNav international conference, organised by Gdynia Maritime University since 1995. The participants also referred to the ongoing collaboration with the National Taiwan Ocean University on the basis of a cooperation agreement, which was concluded four years ago. Kaohsiung city officials indicated the potential for cooperation with their local education institutions: National Sun Yat-sen University and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology. The representatives of both sides expressed their interest in scheduling future meetings to further explore the identified possibilities for collaboration in maritime education and computer science.
Also attending the meeting were representatives of city of Gdynia officials, including Joanna Leman, Head of the Foreign Cooperation Department; as well as Alicja Harackiewicz, Director of Experyment Science Centre; and Piotr Wiśniewski, Director of Gdynia IT Centre. The delegation from Kaohsiung also included: Lin Liao Chia-Hung, Deputy Director General of the Economic Development Bureau; Lin Pin-Yin, Head of the Economic Development Bureau; Wu Wen-Ching, Deputy Director General of Education Bureau; Hsu Chia-Huang, Senior Specialist at the Education Bureau; Chang Yen-Ching, Director General of the Department of Administrative and International Affairs; Wang Tzu-Kuei, Head of the Department of Administrative and International Affairs; Ko Yu-Yen, International Relations Specialist at the Department of Administrative and International Affairs; and Su Bo-Chun, Inspector at the Office of Education.
