GMU Representative Nominated to Management Committee of COST PEACE – Horizon Europe Project
The Minister for Science and Higher Education, on the recommendation of the Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, has named Dr Tomasz Studzieniecki, a member of staff in the Department of Marketing and Quantitative Methods, to the management committee of the PEACE project. The project is financed by Horizon Europe, the EU’s key funding programme for research and innovation.
The priority of the PEACE project is to identify challenges to peace and security on the European continent, whilst carrying out novel research.
The world is currently facing several serious challenges to peace and security. In the past decade, the number of conflicts resultant victims has doubled. The global peace index, an attempt to measure peace on a global scale, has deteriorated consecutively for the past nine years. The war in Ukraine and rising international tensions raise the question of how to address this sudden outbreak of conflict.
Fostering peace, reducing uncertainty, and addressing violent conflicts also represent challenges for the academic community. Therefore, the PEACE initiative seeks to unite an interdisciplinary research community, widening and strengthening the European network of research centres focusing on security and peace.
Dr Studzieniecki is an EU expert in territorial cooperation and aims to use his many years of experience in removing international barriers and the peaceful initiation of international cooperation.
The project provides further opportunities for the promotion of Gdynia Maritime University in Europe and the development of new international relations. Under the Rules and Regulation of Horizon Europe – European Programme for Cooperation in Scientific and Technological Research, representatives from only two higher education institutions per country can named as members of the Management Committee.
