A delegation from Gdynia Maritime University, headed by HM The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit, is taking part in celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Hochschule Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.

Also taking part in the events organised for the anniversary are: Dr Dariusz Barbucha, Deputy Rector for Science; Professor Piotr Jędrzejowicz, Former Rector of the University during the years 1984 – 1989 and 2012 – 2016; Professor Ireneusz Czarnowski, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science; Captain Dariusz Jellonnek, Director of the Maritime Operations Department; Dr Damian Bisewski, GMU Senator and Deputy Dean of Science and Promotion; Dr Kalina Detka, GMU Senator and Deputy Dean for Science and Promotion of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering; Dr Marcin Frycz, Deputy Dean for Part-Time Studies and Promotion of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; Izabela Dudek-Muczyńska, GMU Senator and Head of the Department of Science; Katarzyna Skrzeszewska, GMU Senator; Tomasz Kuczyński, GMU Senator; and Dr Zuzanna Szwedek-Kwiecińska, GMU Press Officer.

The celebrations are taking place from 13 to 16 August 2025. The programme of events includes an official meeting between delegations from both universities on board Dar Młodzieży, which is currently docked at the quay in Willy-Brandt-Platz in Bremerhaven. As part of the celebrations, classical music concerts organised by the Society of Friends of Dar Młodzieży e.V. Bremerhaven, open-air lectures and tours of the German university’s campus will also be held.

Gdynia Maritime University has collaborated with Hochschule Bremerhaven for almost 50 years. The spring of 2025 saw the 20th Polish-German Student Seminar entitled “Managing Cultural Diversity in Europe”, organised by Gdynia Maritime University and Hochschule Bremerhaven under the patronage of the Rectors of both universities.
