Professor Mirosław Jurdziński and Professor Piotr Jędrzejowicz have been awarded the "Meritorious Service to Polish Science Sapientia et Veritas" medal. 

Meritorious Polish Science Sapientia et Veritas medals are distinctions awarded by the Minister of Education and Science to persons for their exceptional contribution to higher education and science in Poland. The medals were presented for the first time this year in honour of the outstanding achievements of nominees in scientific, teaching and organisational activity.

At the petition of HM Rector Professor Adam Weintrit, Professor Mirosław Jurdziński and Piotr Jędrzejowicz were awarded silver "Meritorious Service to Polish Science" medals which were presented by the Minister of Education and Science Przemysław Czarnek on 30th May 2023.

The "Meritorious Service to Polish Science Sapientia et Veritas" Medal

The "Meritorious Service to Polish Science Sapientia et Veritas" medal (Latin for ‘wisdom and truth’) is awarded at three levels - Gold, Silver, and Bronze. This allows candidates to be honoured appropriately for their contributions or achievements. It may be awarded to persons for their services to higher education and science, including non-nationals, universities, foundations, research institutes, and associations. The medal may also be awarded posthumously.

The "Meritorious Service to Polish Science Sapientia et Veritas" medal is conferred by the Minister for Higher Education and Science, or at the request of:

• another minister who is head of a department of government administration;
• the head of the State Office;
• regional governors;
• the authority of a regional government unit;
• the head of the Confederation of Independent Poland
• the statutory bodies of representative institutions of the higher education and science community, social organisations, associations, trade union organisations or representative employers' organisations;
• the ambassador, the head of the diplomatic delegation, a standing delegation to an international organisation or consular office of the Republic of Poland.
