Metrology Programme Project Draws to a Close
Wednesday 20 September saw the closing meeting at Gdynia Maritime University for the project entitled: "Concept for the Construction of a Metrology Infrastructure in Underwater Acoustics at the Central Office of Measures” conducted as part of the “Polska Metrologia” project.
The project is the work of a consortium comprising Gdynia Maritime University, as the project leader, Gdansk University of Technology, and Gdansk University, and one of 26 projects that qualified for financing in the first phase of the Programme and received the maximum grant available for a single project of 1,000,000 PLN.
The meeting was opened by the Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Development, Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk.
Representing the Central Office of Measures were Dr Andrzej Kurkiewicz, the Director of the Department for Innovation and Development, Office Director, Tomasz Michalik, and Dominika Cuper-Przybylska from the Ultrasound and Underwater Acoustics department.
Representing Gdansk University were members of the Scientific Team, Karolina Trzcińska, Dr Jakub Idczak, and Grzegorz Kolat, under the leadership of Professor Jarosław Tęgowski.
Taking part from Gdansk University of Technology were the head of the research team, Dr Roman Salamon, Dr Lech Kilian, Dorota Tobała, and Andrzej Jedel. Also in attendance were representatives of the Ship Technology Centre, one of the subcontractors of the project.
Gdynia Maritime University was represented by The Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Development Cooperation and Development Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk, DSc(Eng) and Karol Listewnik - project lead, Professor Janusz Mindykowski Dr Romuald Maśnicki - members of the research team, as well as Dr Magdalena Kukowska-Kaszuba and Beata Wetoszka from the Technology Transfer Office.
The project leader, Dr Karol Listewnik, presented the consortium's concept for the construction of a Metrology infrastructure in underwater acoustics at the Central Office of Measures, including the design, architecture, construction and equipment. During a discussion on the continuation of the project, attention was drawn to the need for further steps in gaining funding to implement the investment plans determined by the project. The discussion also highlighted the essence of intellectual and human potential and an attempt was made to determine the direction of development in the field in the coming years. Dr Andrzej Kurkiewicz, Director of the Department of Innovation and Development, drew attention to the need to indicate the functionality of the planned investment and how it is to be managed. The meeting concluded with the development of a common vision for completing the tasks remaining to complete the project. The planned directions of development are part of efforts to increase Poland's participation and its importance in metrology research on the international stage.
The Ministry of Education and Science's new 'Polish Metrology' programme will continue and aims to support the implementation of projects to raise the research capacity of metrology institutions, strengthen intellectual capital, increase the competitiveness of the Polish economy, develop modern technologies, and stimulate the development of meteorology, particularly in health, environment, energy and advanced measurement techniques, as well as the development of digital technologies.
