Centre for the Offshore Industry Presented in Kraków at conference “The European way of growth: A growth policy for a secure, resilient and globally competitive European Union”

From 30 Until 31 January 2025, a conference entitled The European way of growth: A growth policy for a secure, resilient and globally competitive European Union and organised by the Ministry for Funds and Regional Policy as part of the Polish presidency of the European Council.

The conference was dedicated to discussing the current outcomes and future challenges of cohesion policy, including its impact on the security and socio-economic transformation of the European Union.

The conference served as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Experts, decision-makers, and practitioners summarised the results of cohesion policy and discussed in panels related to security and the socio-economic transformation of the Community. The event was attended by many guests from across the EU, including the Vice-President of the European Commission for Cohesion and Reforms and the Vice-President of the European Commission for Employment, Social Affairs, and Equal Opportunities.

The conference was accompanied by the "Deeply Rooted in Cohesion" exhibition, where beneficiaries of European Funds presented the results of innovative projects.

Gdynia Maritime University presented the "Innovative Centre of marine environment research laboratories for the offshore industry" as part of the Regional Operational Program of the Pomerania for the years 2014-2020, cofinanced by the European Regional Development Fund.

The Centre for the Offshore Industry is the headquarters of the GMU Maritime Institute, which is connected with the widely understood maritime economy. The visitors were shown equipment used in research of the seabed in connection with offshore wind farm projects, including a CTD sonde, a small underwater vehicle, and a sediment scoop. Staff from the GMU Maritime Institute talked about some of the inhabitants of the Baltic, which they had on display in exhibits.  

Those visiting the stand could explore the topic of spatial planning in marine environments, including in relation to offshore wind energy. They had at their disposal maps showing spatial distribution and the intensity of human activity at sea, as well as the main areas of conflict. There was also a quiz on the maritime environment and spatial planning and a water analysis, as well as photographs and records of research outings conducted by the GMU Maritime Institute for the needs of offshore wind and more.

The stand also included a model of the research vessel IMOR.

On the first day of the conference, the stand was visited by Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz, the Ministry for Funds and Regional Policy together with a delegation from the EU Commission, who were presented projects carried out at the GMU Centre for the Offshore Industry.  

The conference was attended by thousands of participants.
