Welcome to Gdynia Maritime University

Our University recently celebrated its 100-year anniversary. The pages of our history over the last century have been filled with events along our journey from our beginnings as the Maritime School in Tczew to gaining official university status.

Gdynia Maritime University is much more than the beautiful walls of its historic main building, or its world-famous training ships – Dar Młodzieży, Horyzont II and Imor, and their predecessors Lwów, Dar Pomorza, Zenit, Horyzont, Jan Turlejski and Antoni Garnuszewski. The University is all of us – our students who come here to gain knowledge and practical skills, the University lecturers who educate future generations, scientists engaged in research, as well as the numerous members of staff working in administration and research and development.

Gdynia Maritime University is also our graduates and the many guests that visit the campus, or take part in the global science conferences and other events that we organise. Indeed, the University is not confined to the space between its walls. The knowledge gained here is released into the world, by land and by sea. Our highly-qualified graduates work on ships in all the waters of the world for national and international companies in all areas of the maritime industry.

We are a uniformed University, rich in maritime history, and of global reach and thinking. We act conscientiously and consistently, aware of our responsibility to society and the scientific community.

With each new year our ambitions grow, resulting in our successive development which goes beyond our achievements in science. We are modernising and further developing the University’s infrastructure, and cooperating with an ever-increasing number of partners and contractors. Our lecture halls, classrooms, and halls of residence are being prepared to accommodate an increasing number of students. Each year we welcome new students, providing them with a friendly, inspiring place of study, and an attractive range of courses taught on land and at sea.  Our students have at their disposal superbly equipped specialist laboratories and simulators, including a planetarium. We’ve also recently begun construction of a modern Sports and Recreation Centre.

Gdynia Maritime University is currently one of the most highly ranked maritime universities in the world. As a result, our students can rest assured that their education complies with the international standards of the world’s maritime organisations.

I would like to thank you for your interest in Gdynia Maritime University. Whether you are planning to begin a programme of study with us, join our staff, or are already part of our academic community, I trust that our website will provide you with the information you need.
