Dar Młodzieży Invites you Aboard

Gdynia Maritime University's training sail ship, Dar Młodzieży, will welcome visitors onboard its decks on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May.

The "White Frigate" was launched in 1981, with the ceremonial raising of the flag taking place on July 4 1982, and it is this day that is celebrated each year as the anniversary of the ship's entry into service. Guests are invited to visit the ship on special occasions. This year, in connection with the "Dar Młodzieży's" 40th anniversary, the University will hold a weekend of open days - a great opportunity to visit the ship.

The ship will be open to visitors on Saturday 28 May from 11:00 am until 3 pm, and on Sunday 29 May from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm.

In addition to visiting Dar Młodzieży, Gdynia Maritime University has also prepared additional maritime-themed attractions alongside the Pomeranian Quay, located opposite the aquarium in Gdynia.

At 5:15 pm on Saturday, a concert of sea shanty songs will be given onboard Dar Młodzieży by the Male Shanty Choir "Zawisza Czarny" [the Black Knight], the only choir of its kind in Poland and one of the best in its category in the world, that through song, music and choreography helps to keep spread maritime traditions and keep them alive. Zawisza Czarny is made up of 70 men between 20 and 80 years of age and will this year celebrate its 10th anniversary.

We would also like to invite those planning to attend the open days to visit a stand with GMU promotional materials for the occasion. There will be the opportunity to end a 40-anniversary Dar Młodzieży special edition postcard for the occasion free of charge. The University will ensure that each and every postcard sent will quickly reach its addressee, whether on the other side of the country or the world.

Naturally, the University will make use of the opportunity to present its degree programmes. As GMU is currently accepting applications for many of its degrees, it will be an excellent opportunity for future students and their families to familiarise themselves with what the GMU has to offer and talk to staff and students.

For the younger ones, the University's "Sea Dog" mascots will no doubt be an attraction. They will happily pose for photos in the area of the North Pier.

After a busy time visiting the White Frigate and other attractions, visitors will be able to rest on the loungers provided and get a bite to eat from one of the food trucks nearby. Those interested can also watch first-aid demonstrations by students from the Faculty of Navigation.

Celebrations of the 40th anniversary of Dar Młodzieży will not be limited to the weekend's events. In June there will be dedicated academic celebrations for the ship's anniversary during the Gdynia Maritime University Celebration Day.
