University Yacht Twins Places 4th in 14th Maritime Authority Director’s Cup Baltic Regattas
GMU’s Twins Regatta Division did extremely well in the 14th Maritime Authority Director’s Cup Baltic Regattas on Saturday, 30th August.
Team members: Adrian Manista – helmsman (NAV), Magdalena Noga (NAV), Bartosz Trzebiatowski (MAR), Jakub Matwiejczyk and Wojciech Myszk gained fourth place in the open category.
The race was held on the route Gdynia–Jastarnia. Taking part in the competition were crews representing maritime offices, maritime higher education institutions, clubs, and institutions connected with the maritime industry.
Our sincerest congratulations to the GMU crew for their determination, fortitude, and endurance. The yacht and its crew trained for the entire season, and their trainer, Piotr Chylarecki, supported their preparation with patience and consistency. Special thanks go to the team’s coordinator, Adrian Manista, whose passion and willpower bring together the whole crew.
Twins is a racing yacht built in 1987 by two twin brothers, both passionate enthusiasts of competitive sailing. In its early years, the yacht was considered a modern design and competed in the old Quarter Ton class. Years of intensive use under demanding regatta conditions eventually took their toll, and in 2021, the yacht was withdrawn from service for a complete hull overhaul. The renovation was carried out entirely in-house by the Sailing and Water Sports Centre’s staff, with chief efforts led by our boatswain, Krzysztof Zygmański. While Twins may no longer matches the design of modern racing yachts, it remains a remarkably seaworthy vessel – proving that with the right crew, it can still hold its own against any competitor!
Well done, boys and girls. We continue to support you and wish you luck in the next races.
