About us
We invite all sailing enthusiasts, as well as those who have never had the opportunity to try sailing, to begin their journey with us!
The Sailing and Water Sports Centre of the Gdynia Maritime University (GMU) primarily serves the university's academic community, but most of our activities are open to all maritime adventure lovers. Join us to develop your passions, acquire new skills, and dive into the world of sailing.
We offer a comprehensive sailing development programme, guiding you from your first steps right the way through to becoming a confident, independent sailor. With us, you will not only obtain the necessary qualifications but also the practical knowledge and experience to feel confident at the helm of any yacht. You can start with our introductory courses to obtain your first certificates before sailing with us on training expeditions to accumulate the necessary hours and build up your experience and skills to obtain higher licences. For more experienced sailors, we organise specialised training courses and captain's voyages to help you develop your independent yachting skills under the guidance of expert instructors.
You are also welcome to visit us at the Centre for a chat, see the yachts we use and learn about our training facilities!

Our state-of-the-art technical facilities and well-equipped machinery allow us to carry out advanced yacht repairs and equipment servicing entirely in-house.
SAILING AND MOTORBOAT TRAINING:
Providing sailing and motorboat training is one of our priorities. These courses are distinguished by the large number of theoretical and practical classes conducted by our highly experienced instructors. All classes are held on a full-time basis at the well-equipped Sailing and Water Sports Centre. We prioritise the quality of our training and direct contact between students and instructors and lecturers. Since 2013, we have been authorised by the Minister of Sport and Tourism to conduct examinations for all types of sailing and motorboat licences and certificates.
For sail training, we use the iconic s/y Almak, on board which thousands of people have obtained their certificates over the past several decades. Its unique design and traditional equipment provide the perfect support for the sailing education process, enabling our students to gain a comprehensive knowledge base and set of skills.
We run motorboat courses on two modern types of motor yacht: a RIB pontoon boat and the IMOROS 3 rigid-hull yacht. This enables participants to learn how to operate both outboard and inboard motorboats.
Our next priority is to develop and improve all aspects of sailing practice at sea. We conduct training and internship cruises on the university's flagship vessel, the 45-foot s/y Nest yacht. This dependable and comfortable yacht is well-suited for sailing in various waters. For years, we have explored the Baltic, North, and Mediterranean Seas as well as the Atlantic Ocean. We organise educational and recreational cruises, offering participants the chance to develop their sailing skills and gain valuable maritime experience.
We promote recreation on the water by encouraging our students, staff, and supporters of the Centre to join us on short cruises around the Gdańsk Bay.
We also co-organise themed cruises with partners who recognise the potential of sailing for building team relationships, broadening horizons, and personal development.
REGATTA DIVISIONS:
Our Sailing Centre runs two regatta divisions for GMU students and employees. One section sails on the s/y Twins and participates in amateur sea regattas in Gdańsk Bay. The second division sails two OMEGA-class sports boats and competes in inland competitions. The summer calendar is packed with events and includes races as part of the Polish Cup and the Polish Academic Championships, and more.
