Gdynia Maritime University has joined the international Erasmus Days celebrations for the second time. The event, held under the banner of ‘Erasmus on Deck’, took place on 15 October 2026. The occasion provided an opportunity to integrate Erasmus+ students and first-year students on English-taught programmes. The event was held in a welcoming atmosphere promoting European values such as cooperation, openness, and inclusivity. Erasmus Day was organised by the International Student Services Team courtesy of the Institutional Erasmus+ Programme Coordinator, Deputy Rector for Education and Student Affairs Dr Sambor Guze; the Dean of the Faculty of Navigation, Dr Tomasz Neumann; and the Head of the Department of Navigation, Master Mariner Grzegorz Rutkowski.

During the event, Małgorzata Kurnatowska presented the University's programmes of study and invited participants to visit the newly opened Welcome Centre. The programme included sailing yacht cruises around Gdańsk Bay from the Sailing and Water Sports Centre, organised by its Manager Julia Janowska. The cruises were led and skippered by the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Navigation, Dr Adam Kaizer (yacht ALMAK), and Master Mariner Piotr Nowakowski (yacht NEST). Participants were not only given the opportunity to try their hand at sailing, but were also able to admire the skyline of Gdynia from the sea.

The next point on the programme was a tour of the bridge simulators led by Agnieszka Kerbrat. Students had the opportunity to experience the role of large vessel captains and learn about the modern technologies used in the education of future officers.

To conclude, female students from the Nawigator Student Scientific Association, supervised by Dr Krzysztof Wróbel and Daria Cygańska, delivered a presentation in the A. Ledóchowski Planetarium. The show was received with great interest and provided a fitting close to an eventful day.

The event offered an excellent opportunity for integration and adaptation to the new academic environment. Students had the chance to get to know each other better, exchange experiences, and feel part of the Gdynia Maritime University community.

Erasmus on Deck 2026 was financed by the European Union.
