Student Financial Support
Student financial support for students in the 2026/2027 academic year
Financial support from university funds
Students may apply for financial support from the University fund in the form of:
- a Maintenance Grant;
- a Scholarship for Students with Disabilities;
- a Rector’s Scholarship;
- a One-off Grant.
In particularly justified cases, a student may be awarded a Maintenance Grant of increased amount, in particular due to orphanhood, long-term or serious illness, the need to protect maternity, or a large family. The Rector or the Faculty Scholarship Committee (FSC) may also grant an increase in the Maintenance Grant for reasons other than those listed above.
The increase in the Maintenance Grant is awarded on the basis of a student application submitted to the Rector or the FSC within the deadline set by the University; this grant is awarded for one semester.
Detailed provisions are laid down in the Regulations of Student Financial Support for Gdynia Maritime University Students. The Regulations and downloadable annexes are available at the bottom of the page.
Income threshold qualifying for a Maintenance Grant (2026/2027 academic year)
The monthly net income per person in the student’s family household qualifying for a Maintenance Grant may not exceed PLN 2,099.70 net.
Income from an agricultural holding (2026/2027 academic year)
Pursuant to the Notice of the President of Statistics Poland of 18 September 2026, the average annual income from work on individual agricultural holdings per 1 conversion hectare in 2025 was PLN 5,479 (annual income).
This income is taken into account when determining the monthly income per person in the family of a student applying for a Maintenance Grant or a student loan.
Certificate from a social welfare centre
A student whose monthly net income per person in the family does not exceed the statutory income threshold qualifying for social assistance benefits (PLN 823.00 net) must attach a certificate regarding their and their family’s income and financial situation to their Maintenance Grant application. This certificate must be issued by a social welfare centre or a social services centre. Failure to attach this certificate will result in a refusal to award the Maintenance Grant.
The social welfare centre or social services centre issues this certificate upon the student’s application based on current or recent information held on beneficiaries of social assistance (a family background survey is conducted only in cases specified in the Social Assistance Act). Students are advised to submit applications for this certificate via the ePUAP platform.
Where the authority does not hold information regarding the income and financial situation of the student and their family (e.g., because the family has not applied for social assistance benefits), it cannot issue a certificate under Article 88(4) of the Higher Education and Science Act. If the centre refuses to issue the certificate or confirms that the family does not receive social assistance, Article 88(5) of the Act applies: the student may be awarded a Maintenance Grant if they demonstrate justifiable grounds for failing to attach the certificate and document the family’s sources of maintenance.
Criteria for financial independence
A student who is in a difficult financial situation and does not run a joint household with any parent or legal guardian may apply for a Maintenance Grant without demonstrating family income if they meet at least one of the following criteria:
- they have reached the age of 26;
- they are married;
- they have dependent children of their own or of their spouse;
- they reached adulthood while in foster care;
- they have a permanent source of income, and their average monthly income in the preceding tax year and in the current year (in the months preceding the month of submitting the declaration of not running a joint household) is greater than or equal to PLN 1,866.40.
