Tuition Fee Exemptions

1. Statutory Fee Exemptions (Programmes Taught in Polish)
 

The following categories of students are exempt from tuition fees for full-time degree programmes conducted in Polish:

  • EU/EEA & Swiss Citizens: Citizens of EU member states, the Swiss Confederation, and EFTA member states party to the EEA Agreement, as well as family members residing with them in the territory of the Republic of Poland.
  • Permanent & Long-Term Residents: Non-EU/EEA nationals holding a permanent residence permit (zezwolenie na pobyt stały) or an EU long-term resident permit issued in Poland.
  • International Protection Holders: Individuals granted refugee status, subsidiary protection, or temporary protection in the Republic of Poland.
  • Polish Descent & Karta Polaka Holders: Holders of a valid Karta Polaka (Polish Card) or individuals holding a formal administrative decision confirming Polish origin.
  • C1 Polish Certificate Holders: Individuals who hold a state certificate of Polish language proficiency at level C1 or above, issued by the State Commission for the Certification of Proficiency in Polish as a Foreign Language.
  • Family Members of Polish Citizens: Spouses, direct ascendants (parents/grandparents), or direct descendants (children/grandchildren) of a Polish citizen, residing in Poland.
  • Specific Temporary Residence Permit Holders: Non-EU/EEA nationals holding a Polish temporary residence permit granted on the grounds of:
    • Family reunification (Article 159(1) of the Act on Foreigners);
    • Holding an EU long-term resident permit issued by another EU member state (Article 186(1)(3–4));
    • Conducting scientific research, including short-term mobility for researchers (Article 151b or 156b(1)), or holding a national visa for scientific research/development.

       

2. Bilateral Exemptions and Discretionary Waivers (All Programmes)
 

International students may also be exempt from tuition fees for full-time degree programmes (conducted in Polish or a foreign language), as well as fees for repeating failed modules (units), on the basis of:

  • Inter-Institutional or International Agreements: Terms established under formal bilateral agreements between Gdynia Maritime University (GMU) and partner universities or international conventions.
  • Ministerial or NAWA Scholarships: Decisions issued by the competent Minister or the Director of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA).
  • Rector’s Decision: An individual fee waiver granted upon formal application by the Rector of GMU.
