Foreign Languages Centre

The Foreign Languages Centre is a university-wide unit that provides classes for full-time and part-time (extramural) students of all faculties and disciplines at Gdynia Maritime University, including doctoral candidates.

Classes are conducted at various levels of competence in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Courses are tailored to the needs of individual disciplines. Students improve their use of general language, however, an emphasis is placed on specialist English, which is of particular importance during work at sea, in the maritime industry, and the world of business.

The Centre has three teaching rooms equipped with modern audiovisual equipment. English classes are also held in computer laboratories in the Faculties of Marine Engineering and Navigation. The Centre also provides facilities to support the learning process as well as books and reference materials available in the secretariat, which students can make use of during class and at home.

The Centre maintains a presence in the University’s two locations. The secretariat, school management, and language teachers that teach in the Faculties of Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Management and Quality Science are located in the University’s main building on Morska street. Students of the Faculty of Navigation attend classes within the Faculty building on Alei Jana Pawła II, where some language teachers are also based.
