Geotechnical Laboratory

The Geotechnical Laboratory in the Offshore Geotechnics Department at the Maritime Institute is a modern research laboratory fully equipped to perform the highest quality laboratory geotechnical analyses. The main purpose of the laboratory is to provide substantive support for offshore research projects and cooperation with industry, mainly for seabed research – including offshore wind energy. Modern equipment, highly qualified staff, cooperation with experts in the field of geotechnics and many years of experience guarantee the highest quality of services provided by the Geotechnical Laboratory.

Laboratory equipment includes:

  • three-station triaxial test system;
  • 3 advance triaxial test systems with Bender elements and on-sample transducers;
  • 1 dynamic triaxial system;
  • 2 direct shear stress apparatuses;
  • 2 ringshear apparatuses;
  • 17 mechanical oedometers with automatic data recording system;
  • 5 CRS apparatuses;
  • 7 cyclic simple shear apparatuses DSS/DSScyc;
  • 1 monotonic simple shear apparatus;
  • 4 cone penetrometers;
  • 4 sets for sieve analysis and 6 sets for hydrometer analysis;
  • laboratory vane.

Scope of the Laboratory activities

The scope of the Geotechnical Laboratory of Offshore Geotechnics Department in Maritime Institute activities includes testing of the physical and mechanical properties of soils. The detailed scope of the tests, divided into accredited tests (for which all the requirements of PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-02 are met) and non-accredited tests (for which all the requirements of PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-02 are not met), is presented in the list of test methods.

Accreditation of the Laboratory

The Geotechnical Laboratory of Offshore Geotechnics Department in Maritime Institute is accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation, No. AB 1770. The accreditation confirms that the Laboratory meets the requirements of the PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-02 standard with regard to testing methods included in the scope of accreditation.
