Open session of the Senate of the GMU

On December 8, 2020 at 11:00 a solemn open session of the Senate of the Gdynia Maritime University began on the occasion of the traditional School Anniversary and the 100th Anniversary of Polish Maritime Education.

 

After the introduction of the banner and the playing of the national anthem, the first point of the ceremony began - the unveiling of the painting of prof. Janusz Zarębski - Rector of the Gdynia Maritime University in the 2016-2020 term. The painting was unveiled by His Magnificence Rector of GMU, prof. Adam Weintrit and prof. Janusz Zarębski.

 

Then, the host of the ceremony invited to watch a short film "100 years of Gdynia Maritime University", which was made especially for this occasion.

After the screening of the film, an occasional speech was given by the Chairman of the GMU Senate His Magnificence Rector prof. Adam Weintrit. Then, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Marek Gróbarczyk and Bishop Zbigniew Zieliński, took the floor.

Another point of the ceremony was the awarding of the "Meritorious for Maritime Education", "Meritorious for the Maritime University" and "Meritorious Employee of the Maritime University" - awards to people who contributed to the development of the Maritime University and maritime education. These decorations were awarded by His Magnificence Rector of GMU, prof. Adam Weintrit.

His Magnificence Rector of UMG prof. Adam Weintrit also presented jubilee awards for university employees.

After the jubilee awards were presented, the diplomas confirming the conferment of the academic degree of habilitated doctor and doctoral diplomas began. The diplomas were presented by Deputy Rector for Science - Dariusz Barbucha, Ph.D., D.Sc., Associate Professor.

 

Traditionally, awards were also presented to students who distinguished themselves with outstanding achievements in science and social work for the benefit of the academic community. The awards were presented by Mirosław Czechowski, DSc, Eng., Associate Professor - Deputy Rector for Student Affairs.

 

His Magnificence Rector prof. Adam Weintrit also awarded awards to PhD students for outstanding scientific achievements.

After the awards for students and doctoral students, the medals were awarded "Outstanding Graduate of Gdynia Maritime University" for very good results in science and for a high grade in the diploma examination.

Traditionally, His Magnificence Rector prof. Adam Weintrit awarded the prize to members of the Students' Parliament of Gdynia Maritime University for activity and social work for the benefit of the academic community.

His Magnificence Rector prof. Adam Weintrit also awarded prizes to students for outstanding sports achievements of national or international rank in 2020.
