University Pays Tribute to Departed Sailors
Gdynia Maritime University Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, together with the GMU Guard of Honour, laid flowers at the foot of the monument in honour of “those departed for the eternal watch” in Gdynia today.
The act of remembering those gone before us helps shape our identity. It is a longstanding tradition of Gdynia Maritime University to honour the memory of its past alumni, staff, directors and rectors as well as those sailors for who the sea itself was the final port of call.
Located on Gdynia’s beachfront boulevard, the monument is a physical symbol of the memory of all of those who were laid to rest at sea.
On Friday 29th October, Professor Adam Weintrit, together with the students of the University’s Guard of Honour, paid homage to all sailors who were never to again to set foot on land.
