Faculty of Navigation Scientists Win Award For Best Innovation

Dr and Master Mariner Gregorz Rutkowski and Master Mariner Paweł Kołakowski of the GMU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering have been announced as winners of the Best Innovation Competition held as part of the 15th International Technology Transfer Conference.

The solution,  "Innovative equipment of the intervention/service watercraft: Mobile Electromagnetic Mooring System and Batychron" was presented by Paweł Kołakowski during a pitching session at the conference. Following the analysis and assessment of the solutions presented, the International Competition Chapter, which included business and technology experts, decided unanimously to award the award for the best innovation in 2022 to the GMU invention. The solutions were assessed according to several main criteria - the level of innovation, market demand, the level of technical readiness, the method of commercialisation, the strategy for legal protection and presentation.

The ceremonial gala for the award of diplomas and awards took place on 14th October in Ljubljana as part of the 25th International Multi-conference Information Society. During the gala, the team was represented by Paweł Kołakowski, who received the award.

The International Technology Transfer Conference is a cyclical event aimed at promoting the exchange of knowledge between the academic community and industry as part of the strengthening of cooperation and the transfer of innovation from research laboratories to industrial applications. Conference organisers place particular emphasis on strengthening the knowledge base and experience of technology transfer specialists from public research organisations. This year's event focused on the international promotion of the potential and achievements of technological thought, as well as discussions on the synergies between science and industry, the transfer of knowledge and technology, and the financing of research and industrial implementation. The conference was also attended by Dr Magdalena Kukowska-Kaszuba and Agnieszka Piotrowska-Kirschling of the  Intellectual Property and Research Commercialisation Team. Dr Kukowska-Kaszuba discussed how the solution came about and spoke of the innovations designed in response to the industry's needs. Included in the peer-reviewed post-conference materials will be an article entitled "Science meeting the needs of entrepreneurs."

The awarded invention,  "Innovative equipment of the intervention/service watercraft: Mobile Electromagnetic Mooring System and Batychron," is the result of pre-implementation project UMG-03, entitled "Equipment for a Mobile Diving Sea Rescue Service Base (MoB MEDS) and led by Dr Rutkowski Grzegorza Rutkowskiego as part of the 'Innovation Incubator 4.0' programme financed under the non-competition project 'Support for the management of scientific research and commercialisation of R&D results in scientific entities and enterprises', implemented under the Smart Operational Development Programme 2014-2020. The Innovation Incubator 4.0 Programme is coordinated by the GMU  Intellectual Property and Research Commercialisation Team.

Congratulations to all involved!
