Maritime Convent Conference Meets on Occasion of 5th Anniversary
The Maritime Convent met on 27th of June 2022 in Gdansk, providing the opportunity to mark 5 years of its work. The conference, in which HM Rector of GMU Professor Adam Weintrit took part, was attended by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
Held in the conference room of the World War II Museum in Gdansk, the meeting focused on discussions on the future of the Polish Navy float, developments in the construction of polish passenger ferries, and securing personnel for the Polish shipbuilding industry.
Other guests included the Archbishop of Gdansk Dr Tadeusz Wojda, Marek Gróbarczyk, the secretary of state and government plenipotentiary for water resource management and investment in the maritime and water economies, and Dariusz Drelich, the Governor of Pomerania. Also taking part in the meeting were the rectors of Pomeranian higher education establishments - Szczecin Maritime Academy, Gdansk University of Technology, and the Polish Naval Academy. Gdynia Maritime University was represented by Rector Professor Adam Weintrit.
The Maritime Convention is an advisory body to the Minister of Infrastructure. It was established in 2016 by an order of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Inland Navigation and is composed of specialists from the maritime industry. The task of the Convention is to give an opinion on the key directions of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Inland Waterway Transport and to submit draft concepts for the development of the areas dealt with by the Ministry. The meeting was an opportunity for the President of the Council of Ministers to present Medals for the 100th Anniversary of Regaining Independence to persons of particular merit to the maritime economy. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki expressed his appreciation for the work of the members of the Maritime Convention and their commitment to exploiting Poland's maritime potential.
The conference concluded with a speech by Zbigniew Sulatycki, who emphasised the importance of the economic investments undertaken and the joint action of institutions and services on behalf of the country.
