University Pays Tribute to Departed People of the Sea
On Friday 28th October 2022, Rector Professor Adam Weintrit, on behalf of the entire academic community, laid a wreath and a candle under the monument "For those who have departed for the eternal watch" monument on the boulevard in Gdynia, paying tribute to all people of the sea who have gone before us.
It has become a tradition at Gdynia Maritime University for the academic community to pay tribute to those who have left for the eternal watch on the last Friday in October of each year.
On this day, we proudly remember the deceased alumni, staff, directors and rectors of our Alma Mater and all the seafarers for whom the sea itself was to be their last and eternal port of call.
The ceremony for the laying of the wreath and candle under the monument was taken care of by Gdynia Maritime University's Guard of Honour, which, as well as providing an escort, also set up an honorary post.
