28th Maritime Ball at GMU

An extraordinary decoration related to the year of Mikołaj Kopernik, an exquisite menu, live music, polonaise, a performance by the Ladies Violin Duo, and caricaturists - these were just some of the attractions that awaited guests during the 28th Maritime Ball at Gdynia Maritime University.

The Maritime Ball was held on Saturday 18th February - as per tradition on the last Saturday of the carnival period. The principal theme of the ball was the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolas Copernicus.

The guests were welcomed by Professor Adam Weintrit, Professor Adam Weintrit and his wife, who invited the guests to gather for a joint photo. Guests were then shown to their tables, which were named after different star constellations. 

The Rector mentioned his visit to Japan, where he was elected  Chair of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), before wishing them a good time at the ball.  

The ball was hosted by Aleksander Gosk, and Musical entertainment on the night was provided by the renowned "Commers Band".

There was also an impressive surprise performance by electric violinists Ladies Violin Duo.

In connection with the Year of Nicolas Copernicus, who was born on 19th February 1473, a special birthday cake decorated with an image of the outstanding astronomer was served at midnight.

Guests were then presented with a special gift for the occassion - a copernicus astrolabe. Wybrana została również najbardziej roztańczona para XXVIII Balu Morskiego Uniwersytetu Morskiego w Gdyni.

The ball lasted until the morning, with guests leaving in high spirits and looking forward to the next event in 2024.

Among the guests were representatives of companies and institutions cooperating with Gdynia Maritime University, the rectors of Tri-City higher education institutions, and the University's staff.
