AGA23 General Assembly and Conference of the International Association of Maritime Universities Takes Place in Helsinki
On 16-20 October 2023, the International Association of Maritime Universities' Executive Committee met in Helsinki for the 23rd General Assembly and a conference organised by the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences and the IAMU Secretariat.
During the first two days, GMU Rector Professor Adam Weintrit chaired the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Association's International Executive Board. Also taking part in the meeting was GMU's IAMU Contact Person, Professor A. Przybyłowski.
During the meeting, changes were made to the provisions of the IAMU General Agreement concerning the Association's objectives and tasks and the acceptance of current projects carried out by individual consortia and research teams within the Association, as well as the award of scholarships. Research projects were also approved and are to be financed by the Nippon Foundation in the next edition. The Committee also nominated the host of IAMU AGA 2025 - The Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) in India.
The 2023 IAMU Annual General Assembly then took place, during which the changes proposed by the IEB were approved and the budget adopted for the next financial period. This was followed by a traditional gathering of the heads of Maritime Universities - the so-called President's Forum.
Finally, during a voyage on the route Helsinki-Stockholm, delegates took part in a two-day conference entitled "Quality of the Education of Global Maritime Professionals".
The participation of the GMU delegation in these events provided opportunities for numerous meetings and discussions, during which GMU Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, discussed potential initiatives and projects that could be carried out in the future within the framework of the IAMU. The next IAMU General Assembly is scheduled for October 2024 at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the USA.
