GMU Open Days Well Attended
More than 800 secondary school pupils from all over Poland took part in workshops, lectures and visits to laboratories during the Gdynia Maritime University Open Days, held in the University's main building and the Faculty of Navigation.
This year, Gdynia Maritime University opened its doors on 20th and 21st April 2023, the first time the event was held over two days, from 9:00am until 2:00pm. Both organised groups and individuals were in attendance. Our guests were greeted enthusiastically by the University's mascots and many took advantage of a 360 photo booth located in the main lobby to record a short video souvenir of their visit.
In front of the University's main building, the Electrical Vehicles Scientific Circle, EVPL exhibited electric vehicles, and the SeaQuest Scientific Circle a motorboat.
In the University's main T. Meissner hall, presenting details of their scientific activity were the Student Parliament, the Internet of Things and Embedded Computing Systems Scientific Circle (IOtes), the Human Machine Interface (HMI) Scientific Circle, as well as Scientific Circles Nautica, SeaNovation, E-Biznes, CARGO, Investor, LoGIStic, Innovative Transport and Logistics Systems (ISTL), the Submarine Research Scientific Circle SeaQuest, the School of Foreign Languages, the Doctoral School, and ERASMUS+. Major organisational support was provided by students from the TRANSLOG Scientific Circle, who helped at the information desks and also served as guides during tours. The help of students of the Gdynia Maritime University's Guard of Honour was also invaluable.
During the two days of the event, the Deputy Rector for Education and the Deputy Rector for Student Affairs presented the University's degrees and courses, including details of the rules and deadlines for admissions on the hour every hour. Each presentation ended with a competition in which participants were able to win a commemorative "Dar Młodzieży" puzzle.
There were also interesting lectures and workshops prepared by the staff of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Navigation, and Management and Quality Science. Future students were also able to visit the laboratories and simulators in which degree classes and practicals take place.
In the middle of the afternoon, on the first day of the event, awards were presented for the competition entitled "Construction of a model of the offshore wind farm of the future." On behalf of Gdynia Maritime University, entrants were presented with their prizes by Professor Mirosław Czechowski, Deputy Rector for Student Affairs. The winners were pupils from the Vocational and Further Education Centre in Gdynia and the Mechanical and Logistics Schools in Słupsk.
At the end of the Open Days, the competition for the most engaged GMU Scientific Circle was decided. The panel of judges consisted of the Deputy Rector for Education, the Deputy Rector for Student Affairs, Deputy Rectors from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Management and Quality Science and representatives of the Student Parliament. 1st place was given to the Submarine Research Scientific Circle SeaQuest, placing 2nd was the Internet of Things and Embedded Computing Systems Scientific Circle (IOtes), and 3rd place went to the Human Machine Interface (HMI) Scientific Circle. HM The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University Professor Adam Weintrit, decided to award a special award to the EVPL Electric Vehicles Scientific Circle.
Each person who attended the Open Days was given information materials on the University and small gifts.
