Representatives of TAMUG USA Visit GMU
From 1st to 2nd June 2023, Gdynia Maritime University was honoured to host a delegation from the Faculty of Marine Engineering at the Texas A&M University at Galveston. TAMUG is the largest maritime university, according to the number of students in the United States. The members of the delegation were Dr Alok K. Verma - Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Marine Engineering, Dr Irfan A. Khan (Assistant Professor) and Frank Pedersen (Assistant Professor of Practice).
The aim of the visit was for the two universities to get to know each other presentation of the University as well as a discussion on the possibilities of cooperation, especially as regards the exchange of students, joint projects, research work and education. Guests met with University and Faculty authorities and visited laboratories and simulators in the Faculties of Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, and Navigation. Dr Khan also gave a brief lecture for students of the Faculty of Marine Engineering on "HVDC Transmission Technologies for Offshore Wind Power Plants (Power Electronic Solutions for Farther & Deeper Waters)".
On 2nd June 2023, the TAMUG delegation also met with the research team of Professor T. Tarasiuk, composed of D. Hallmann, M. Górniak, and A. Pilate.
During the meeting, the team presented a laboratory station with a virtual model of a ship's power system built using Hardware in the loop (HIL) technology in the Typhoon Hil environment. The station was developed by GMU staff in cooperation with the Remontowa Electrical Solutions shipyard as part of the project NCBiR no POIR 01.02.00-00-005/1800 entitled "Integrated modelling and graphic design of ship electrical systems". The guests were introduced to the system developed by GMU (in cooperation with Remontowa Electrical Solutions) and given a demonstration of the work of the ship's virtual power system model in collaboration with real Power Management System devices from the company Deif commonly used in ship technology.
