University Adds New Yachts to its Fleet

On Wednesday 10th May 2023, GMU officially accepted two new Omega Sport yachts into its fleet. The yachts were christened with champagne by the Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit. In just a few days, Omega POL 655 and POL 654 will take part in the regattas in Olsztyn, and from 22nd to 25th May, in the Polish Academic Championships in Wilkas, organised by the Academic Association of Sports in Warsaw.

 — "Until now, we have won cups on chartered yachts. Now we can finally compete on our own"  — commented the Rector.

The christening of the yachts was also attended by the director of the Sports and Recreation Centre, Dr Andrzej Lachowicz, the head of the Sailing and Watersports Centre, Andrzej Szklarski and Jędrzej Charłąpowicz - an assistant in the Department of Logistics and Transport Systems, who on many occasions has represented the University in Polish sailing championships.

Currently, the Sailing and Watersports Centre has seven yachts and two motor RIBs.
