Children’s Day in the Prime Minister’s Gardens

On Saturday 1 June, Children’s Day, Gdynia Maritime University took part in the Bajkowy Ogród  event in the gardens of the office of the Prime Minister in Warsaw.

At 10 am, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk opened the gate to the gardens and let in the hundreds of children waiting for the event to begin.  The youngsters were treated to many attractions and competitions organised by the uniformed services, public companies, and institutions of all government departments. Rescue equipment demonstrations, orchestra performances, children’s entertainers, sports competitions, and a huge amount of sweets were just some of the attractions available to children until 5 pm. Participants included famous sports personalities, including Robert Lewandowski, Marcin Gortat, Robert Korzeniewski, and Otylia Jędrzejczak.

At Gdynia Maritime University’s stand, participants could take part in a lottery with prizes. Entrants were required to sing a shanty song, decipher a maritime riddle, or show their sports skills. Youngsters were given certificates and with the parents, we talked about the history and activity of the University and its training ships.

Both children and adults had a go at tying maritime knots and making a maritime key chain.

Despite the changing weather, the GMU stand was visited by a great number of children. Perhaps some of them will be our future students.

See you all next year!
