First Day of the “War and the Sea – From the Middle Ages to Modernity” Held in Gdynia
On 22 August 2024, the first day of the “War and the Sea – From the Middle Ages to Modernity” took place at the Naval Museum in Gdynia. The ceremonial opening of the event and the welcoming of speakers and guests was performed by HM The Rector of Gdynia Maritime University, Professor Adam Weintrit and the Director of the Museum Tomasz Miegón.
The 6th edition of the event is dedicated to the history of the Polish Navy and includes the participation of 26 experts, representatives of the academic world and culture from Poland and abroad. The conference began with a talk given by HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, entitled “A Map of War and the Sea”, which cross-referenced the most important matters in the history of cartography, including not only a record of geographical discoveries throughout history but also a graphic tale of battles and subordination of the world.
The organisers of the event are Gdynia Maritime University and the Naval Museum in Gdynia
The second day of the conference, which will take place tomorrow at the Faculty of Navigation at Gdynia Maritime University, will see experts present on topics such as the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944, following the recent 80th anniversary of the event.
