GMU and Partners Inaugurate Project as Part of Polish Metrology II Programme

On 13 June 2024, a meeting was held for the inauguration of the project “Concept for the Construction of a Metrological Infrastructure in the Underwater Acoustics Department of The Central Office of Measures”. The meeting also saw the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Central Office of Measures and GMU as part of the Ministry of Education and Science’s Polish Metrology II Programme.

The project, which is being conducted by a consortium of three Tricty universities: Gdynia Maritime University (leader), the Gdańsk University of Technology, and Gdańsk University, was named among 24 projects awarded funding as part of the Polska Metrologia II contest. The funding granted to the consortium amounts to PLN 990,000.

The event, which was held at GMU, was opened by the Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Development, Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk, and the Director of the Technology Transfer Office, Dr Magdalena Kukowska-Kaszuba.

In attendance from the Central Office of Measures was Jacek Semaniak, the Office’s CEO; Dr Andrzej Kurkiewicz, the Director of the Department for Innovation and Development; Tomasz Szczukowski, the Head of the Gdynia Branch of the Office of Measures; and Dominika Cuper-Przybylska.

Representing Gdansk University were the Director of the Gdańsk University Technology Transfer Office, Katarzyna Gronowska, and members of the research team: Dr Maria Rucińska and Grzegorz Kolat, under the leadership of Professor Jarosław Tęgowski.

Representing Gdańsk University of Technology were the Deputy Rector for Internationalisation and Innovation, Professor Janusz Nieznański; and members of the research team, Associate Professor Dr Jacek Marszal, Dr Jan Schmidt, and Dorota Toboła, under the leadership of Associate Professor Dr Iwona Kochańska.

Gdynia Maritime University was represented by The Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Development, Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk; Dr Karol Listewnik (project leader); Professor Janusz Mindykowski, a member of the research team; the Deputy Rector for the Organisation of Study Programmes, Dr Adam Muc; the Director of the Technology Transfer Centre, Magdalena Kukowska-Kaszuba; and Innovation Broker, Anna Żuławska.

The launch meeting was aimed at presenting the achievements of the first edition of the Polish Metrology programme and the new assumptions agreed by the consortium, as well as the plan for the second project in relation to the essential programme indicators to be met concerning the stimulation of the development of metrology in Poland. The teams also presented their competencies and defined and specified their tasks. The planned results of these tasks shall be widely analysed and discussed by all participants in the project. The meeting concluded with the development of a common vision for completing the tasks and meeting the requirements of the programme Polish Metrology II. The project enables activities to be carried out that are aimed at strengthening the intellectual capital and increasing the competitiveness of the Polish economy in strategic areas such as health, environment, energy, advanced measurement techniques, and the development of digital technology.
